Going Back to a Full Time Job With Candice, Chonce and Joshua

In this season finale, we’re going to dig deeper into the idea of what it means to go back to a job after taking a stab at entrepreneurship. How can someone accept the fact that they’ve “failed”, how does one deal with a bruised ego, and well, is it really the end of the world?

You see, these questions about your vocation, it’s more than about how you make money. It’s actually a larger question about your worth. About how ‘badass’ you are. You bucked the conventional trajectory, congrats! How cool are you that you get to dictate your own schedule, work from the beach and be your own boss!

And well, if you go back to a job, it is a message to the world that you suck. You can’t make it, there’s something wrong with you. What will people say?

Checking Into a Mental Health Facility with Julianna Estall

Juliana works as a DCR, or designated crisis responder, and as someone who evaluates others to determine whether they need psychiatric help, she found herself in a situation where she was in her client’s shoes. She noticed things were off, like the inability to handle stressful situations, or when she didn’t sleep for 24 hours.

One day, she decided to call 911 to be checked in voluntarily so she could be evaluated. She had a police officer take away her weapon and escort her to the emergency room.

She comes on to talk about the time she checked herself into a mental facility, and how much it really cost her. We also discuss how she’s more empathetic towards others’ financial situations when it comes to mental health, and why she does not regret the thousands of dollars she’s spent (and continues to spend to take care of her needs)

Ambition Versus Motherhood With Maggie Germano

True story. When I first took my then side hustle full time, I had these grandiose dreams of watching my son, having him asleep by my side while I typed away in total bliss. Why would I need childcare? I thought. I can juggle motherhood and self employment.

Boy was I wrong.

One day, I was up against a few deadlines and was already sleep deprived, because you know, I have a baby. He was teething and let’s just say he was not handling it well. When my husband came home. It was total chaos. I’m talking the entire apartment was trashed (who knew small toddlers can wreak such havoc?) I’m on the couch with tears in my face and all I could remember my husband saying to me was “why don’t you take the care and go do something by yourself.”

I drove my butt down to the nearest McDonalds, bought a meal and say in the corner of the play area…and well definitely learned my lesson about the idea of “having it all.”

My guest this week, Maggie Germano is also going through many of the same struggles ambitious self-employed folk have. As in, how do you juggle the needs of motherhood with where you want to strive in your career? Do you have to constantly hustle to grow a business, or does slowing down really throw everything off the track? What about being present with the baby, or navigating boundaries with your partner?

She comes on the show to talk about the perceived conflict that is motherhood and ambition. She shares how she’s embrace the uncertainty as to comes to her income and business goals, emotions she’s facing, and what’s she’s not willing to give up as a mother.
